Modified Shop Bought Lure

Just a quick post to show you the lure which I hooked my Bass on in Co. Louth.

I made the modification one day when i was fishing in Kerry but never really got a chance to use it again.

I simply took a small multi-tool with a file blade and proceeded to remove the diving vein! Am I mad? Well my reasoning was to turn it into a surface / sub hybrid lure. . . .

I gave the face a small slant which does dig into the water when fished hard.

The action is a gentle wiggle which occasionally rolls and comes up to splash the surface - Looks great.

Pays off to experiment!!

It worked - I hooked a small Bass of somewhere between 2 and 3 lb on it - It was the one that got away!!!

Anyway, hope this is insightful and an interesting concept!

Lure Update

If you have read my blog you will know I was working on some lures the past week or so . . . after a quick experimentation I started to spray them properly.

Here are the Yo Zuri style lures i have finished myself!

My other projects were some pike lures

Lastly, similar to the above red head, i sprayed a large lure silver, with black back - almost herring/sardine like with red gill flashes:

Feedback would be great from anyone reading this - so by all means give me a shout!

Or any other suggestions would be great to!

I'm sure I will have more to come in the future - I am already looking into a few different style blanks at the minute!

Home Painted Lures

Here are a few of the demo lures i have been working on - Not perfect finish yet but just a concept!

Working on proper finish this week - Enjoy!

Top to bottom -

Lime Green / Pearl
Gold / Pearl
Sandeel Colours
Pearl with Red Head

All feedback welcome!

The one that got away ......

Normally if a fish got off on me i would be annoyed even angry but strangely not this time! Am I mad?

We moved on out to the mouth of the Boyne River where it meets the sea and fished the turn of the tide . . . . I was using a lure which i bought and filed the diving nose off to make it fish sub surface / surface. It looks great - very jerky and irractic in movement. (Silver, Red and Black)

I cast out and began to twitch the lure back violently , about 12 foot from the shore i say the bar of silver come up and BANG - it was on ...

It took line and finally I hooked a fish on my new lure rod - However the shallow, rocky ground proved to be a better match for me than I anticipated and the fish snagged me up and line went slack!

So close to landing my first Bass on a lure!

Why wasn't I annoyed you ask? Well firstly I was glad to see I was doing something right and secondly it was an exciting few minutes whilst it was on. You can't land them all - can you?

It looked a around 2 - 3 lb in weight - But it will swim on to fight another day!!

(This was the spot where I hooked the small Bass, shallow, rough and murky water)

Later on we tried bait fishing from some of the many beaches but it just was not surfy enough in my opinion to entise the fish to feed!

I left Louth with a story to tell and a fish I shall remeber!

Off to fish the coast North of boyne estuary

Setting off tomorrow to try a few marks North of the boyne estuary!

Painted up some lures of my own during the week (pics to follow) - Hopefully get trying them out!

Haven't got any bait as yet so looks like we will have to chance our arm and try and get some en route!

Never fished this area before , but it is always good to try something new. . . . speaking of something new i have packed my Slug Go 7.5 inch soft plastics and some very fishy looking imitation sandeel plastics!

I shall report back after my trip!

Wish me luck . . . .
